Choki Dhani Jaipur Reviews
Very good dinner and a nice way to spend the evening Aug 17, 2011
It's a touristy mini-village on the outskirts of Jaipur. We had our hotel (Umaid Mahal) arrange for a car and driver to take us there. It felt like quite a long drive because traffic was heavy - but it was quite a distance from jaipur town. So, time yourself so that you have at least an hour to explore the grounds and watch the performances before dinner.
The entry fee is inclusive of a Rajasthani Thali (typical Rajasthan set meal. Dinner is served at 8pm and guests sit crossed legged on the floor. Delicious - roti (indian flat breads), vegetarian side dishes and gravies, papad and sweets (the jalebi was to die for).
There are song and dance performances (if you join in the dance, be prepared to tip the dancers), a masseur (head & shoulder massage), camel ride, a snack stall, spices and souvenirs ... oh and masala milk - a couple of local boys stirring a huge pot of nutty, spiced milk served in a disposable earthen tumbler. Lovely for a cool evening.
Remember to get your driver's phone number. There are lots of rental cars and drivers waiting outside/nearby. It will be harder for you to find your driver, than for your driver to find you.
