7th heaven Aug 03, 2011
literally a blast from the past - reviving the old glory of Madrid, where famous spanish and european celebrities and socialites used to brush off with each other in a small café offering the best high grade chocolate con churros that can never be served anywhere.

yes - that is the atmosphere of this little café. adorned with black and white portaits on the wall of people in the society makes Chocolatería San Ginés stand out from the others. established in 1894, the small chocolateria is constructed of latin influence - tiled floors and marble tables. it is open almost 24 hours a day - whether you wanted to have a snack before doing the nightlife in madrid or breakfast after clubbing and bar hopping.

it is very famous in madrid but the one thing that surprised me was that the chocolate con churros serving is very cheap - only around 4 euros considering that it is very prestigious.

the chocolate is very thick not watery and the churros is as crunchy as it should be - and when dipped into the chocolate - gives a flavor thats so divine and it melts into the mouth.

Chocolatería San Ginés is a MUST for every visitor in Madrid because you can never taste anything like it, it's 7th heaven.

Nice but overrated Nov 08, 2011
As Spain is rather famous for chocolate con churros, this is perhaps one of the most famous places to try it. It’s mentioned in quite a few guide books, and well-attended by Spaniards too. Despite the fame of the place, I thought the serving was rather average. The serving of chocolate was smaller than in other places, but the quality wasn’t that amazing either. The churros are rather nice, but a little on the thin side. Service is quick and prompt, and during busy hours, you might be competing for a free seat or sharing with some others! I’m glad I came here, and would recommend it to anyone at least once. They have generous opening hours and it’s rather trendy to stop off here straight after a night at the bars and clubs. But the hype is a tad too much in my opinion and other regions of Spain serve better than this!

The Place for Churros in central Madrid Dec 04, 2009
At any hour of the day you can find fresh, delectable churros at Chocolatería San Ginés. This place is not to be missed if you care about food and you're passing through Madrid. The best time to visit is between the wee hours of 4AM-7AM when you get a taste of Madrid's night life.

This is the most popular place to have a traditional "chocolate con churros". It is been there since 1894, so its a one of those places everybody knows in Madrid. One of the best things is that it is open all night long, so if you go out and late and night you get hungry, go there! It is one of those local experiences you must go through! Don´t remember if it is expensive or not, but I doubt it! It is in "Barrio de La Latina". If you go there on Saturday or Sunday you will find many people in the stree, and you might find it packed! they have a small terrace outside, so you will probably have to wait to get a table.
