Oldest Chinatown in Japan Jul 25, 2000
This was my first visit to a Chinatown and I liked it. Even though it was a long time ago (I was there in 2000), it's still a fond memory of my time in Nagasaki. My only regret is that because of the short amount of time in the city, I didn't got to much of the area.

It's the oldest Chinatown (also called Shinchi Chinatown) in Japan, dating back from the 17th century. Nagasaki was the only main port of trading with China, due to Japan's isolation with the rest of the world.

At the time, there were plenty of shops to buy chinese souvenirs and also a number of restaurants. I had my first dinner one of them on the first night of my time in Nagasaki.

I donĀ“t know how many changes have been made (if there were any), but when I'm back to Nagasaki some day, I'll be sure to visit the place again, just to wonder the streets and of course have a good chinese meal!
