The trip started in Shanghai with some great bargains. Then we took the plane to Tibet to dive into another world. While our cap driver left us at Ganden monastery we were lucky enough to be able to join a pilgrim group back to Lhasa. Taking the new train from Lhasa to Beijing for 48 hours the last part of the trip began. Living in a real hutong I could get around the city and just with a piece of paper (and a bit of luck) to the great wall.

After eating breakfast at the hotel, we headed out for a full day to Temple of Heaven, Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, and Summer Palace. We also visited Beijing Pearl Market (Pearl Factory) and Dr Tea (Tea Factory). We were able to learn how to tell the difference between fake and real pearls and also the difference between fresh water and salt water pearls. We went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch and a Thai restaurant for dinner. Afterwards, we went to...

I traveled alone at this point. I wasn't really scared, because I think think Suren and my parents prepared me for what I was to expect from the locals. Beijing is pretty safe, but I think they were worried about Xi'an. I think my purpose to travel is to reflect and on my life and my path. With that said, this next week was life changing.

Day 3 - The breakfast is on the 53rd fl. Buffet style, very business atmosphere. I had English breakfast tea, watermelon, peach and apple juice. I also had fresh made two-eggs with toast. The counter also displayed all kinds of Chinese style breakfast such as Shaio-Lung-Bao(pork buns), soy milk, congee with pickles etc. There's also other selection of western syle cheese, salads and fruit. More than 50 items to choose for breakfast. Increditable! The breakfast made me feel I am in heaven...

I think I am addicted to writing.
I visited Beijing twice last year. Once in Spring, and once in summer. I would skip winter I am allergic to cold as prescribed by Doctor Winnie.
Beijing is the capital of China, and in the past, it used to be a communist country. Til today, many people are still uniquely Chinese chinese (if you get what I mean), and really proud and protective of their country. Fortunately, or unfortunately to many, Beijing is undergoing a major makeover due to the hosting ...

I don't feel too much like writing right now, considering the totally crappy day I had, but I will give you the short story. One hour out of HK we arrived at our hotel in HouJie Town. The three of us were sitting in an area of the lobby with three couches in a "U" pattern. All of our computer bags were at our feet as we sat on the couch and talked. I told Alan and Brian that I was going to go the men's room before we headed over to our first appointment. WhenI go...

I don’t know if you’ve heard about this yet, but an American tourist was killed in China while visiting a famous tourism site. His wife was also attacked and still might die.
Maybe if it hadn’t been during the Olympics, this wouldn’t be a big news deal, but there’s a famous saying that goes: it is easier to feel the death of one person you know than a million you don’t.
Most of you know how much I love my alma mater, UCLA. What you probably don’t know is that volleyball is my ...

Beijing. The capital of China. A cold city, at least during winter/spring. We arrived here by train from Hong Kong. 24 hours on something that was pure luxury compared to the trains in India. We checked in at Wangfujing Youth Hostel and got ready to explore this small part of China, with important history.
The city is huge, so you'll need at least a week. Even more if you ask me. We stayed for 10 days. During the 10 days we got to see The Forbi...

This is my adventures in China in the summer of 2008. I spent 37 days in China traveling around with my brother. I am slowly, very slowly adding pictures and journals about what we did. So far this includes the Great Wall at Mutianyu, Sanjiang and Shaolin Temple. Eventually it will cover everything we did.

Our flight into Beijing was smooth enough, and we encountered no real difficulty in getting to our hostel. First objective accomplished. Prior reports of lack of English and the unfriendliness of the Chinese had yet to materialise, but obviously these were early days yet. Unbeknown to us (this wouldn't have been the case if we had read the rough guide a bit more carefully) we had arrived in the capital of China during Labour Day celebrations, essentially the busiest holiday week in the Chines...

This weekend, about 15 people from our group traveled to Inner Mongolia! It is a province about 12 hours North East of Beijing. We had the whole thing set up though a travel agent close to our classroom (the Asian kids had to help us with this one). Some things were definitely lost in translation because we definitely didn't get what we expected (a 6 hour bus ride turned into a 12 hour bus ride...) but it was an awesome adventure! When we first arrived at a Mongolian camp in ...
