Shanghai itself was a blur--we arrived with the tail end of a typhoon that was battering the southern provinces and soaked us out the first day and a half. After the packed schedule of ECHT I was expecting an equally grueling schedule in China however we were left plenty of time to ourselves... too…

My first trip to China to study mandarin for a year (the PLAN) and ended up only 6 months. However, China was a great strong country, a lot of friendly and aggressive people there although it sees hard for me to hang out with the locals. They even hardly speak English, I guess it's a good thing for me to practice the language. Anyway, it was one of a hell trip I have in my life, I could make friends with the expat at least. Helping a friend browsing the city with only 0,5% mandarin I cud speak.

Lanzhou, China -› Tibet, China -› …
My love affair with the mountains continues with a recent trip to The Roof Of The World - Tibet. Our journey to Lhasa was a 29 1/2 hours train ride from Lanzhou on the Qinghai-Tibet (Qingzang) Railway. To get to Lanzhou was indeed a long journey, flying eastwards from Dubai to Shanghai, from Shangh…

Me and my housemate joined a package tour to Beijing + Xi'an last Feb 18 to 21 to celebrate 2007 Lunar New Year in China. We arranged everything in Singapore for this trip. We knew that independent travel would be difficult for us since we can't speak and read chinese, and we don't have time to was…

Yes, I got quarantined for 12 hours but for some of my travel companions the “imprisonment” lasted 7 days which was almost half of our precious vacation time. I guess we learned that it is probably better not to go to China during a Flu Pandemic.
Flu issues aside the tr…

Knife and I checked in at an hostel that was situated high up un a hill. It was an old observatory. It was a cozy place, especial the restaurant wich was on the top floor with a very good view of the city. Drove 2 hours this morning before arriving in Wuzhen, a lovely old-world water canal town on the way back to Shanghai. We wandered through the old streets and buildings, the town being like a living museum where people still live and work and produce the old products such as rice wine and dye…
