Traveling by your lonesome is a nice experience. This is the second time I traveled alone and I can say it's an interesting experience to submerge in one's culture even for a few days only

I went to China for the month of May 2006, so study the long term effects of human development on aquatic ecosystems. As such I traveled to extremely rural places and went where no white person had ever been before. Overall the trip was eye opening!

This area of 850 hectares provides the visitor with some of the most densely-packed and unique sights in the entire Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area. The cruise, 7.5 kilometres long, takes about two hours, and each bend has its own scenic attractions.

On the penultimate day of the course I managed to oversleep and miss the first class! Given how many ridiculously late nights I’d been having this was actually the first time I’d not made it to lessons on time.
We were told at the start of the course that missing classes without a good explanation would not be tolerated, so I was pleasantly surprise when my absence was ignored. Clearly my star pupil status had worked in my favour!
The rest of the day passed by in a complete …

After a quick breakfast at the Hotel Bayangol, we got our transfer to the station get the final leg of our Trans Siberian/Mongolian adventure.
Once on the train, first impressions were an improvement on the last train, so hopes were higher for a more comfortable journey....Sadly this was short-lived...
The carriage reached 40°C in the sweltering Gobi desert heat, and the worst part was that we were told to shut the windows to stop the cabin from filling with the desert dust, leaving us who…

I would be scared to drive in China because I know I will hit somebody. It’s funny the way pedestrians try to cross the stree…

We arrived at the ferry terminal in Tanggu, near Tianjin where we got a bus to Beijing. Less than thirty minutes into our journey there was a loud bang where one of the rear tyres had burst. Eventually, seven hours later we arrived at the Red Lantern hostel in Beijing.
We spent our first full day sightseeing at Tiananmen Square where we saw Zhengyangmen gate and Tiananmen gate which were both beautifully painted. Unfortunately Chairman Mao's mausoleum was closed for restoration.
