Hello Hello!
Today we went to the Forbidden City! It was very impressive to see! But it was a pity that our tourgide went really quick through everything..so it was more like a "race" through the Forbidden City! And I have seriously never laught so hard...EVERY chinees that you meet wants to take a picture with you! They are so surprised to see Western people....they all stare and point at you! First I thought that I had someting weird or something lik...

Note: Before you read this article, please set the character code of your browser to "unicode(utf-8)", otherwise, you will not be able to see the Chinese characters. You can select "unicode(utf-8)" from "character code" in the "View" menu of your browser.People who are new to Chinese think it is quite difficult to recognize Chinese characters. I seem to have a lot of calamities on my vacations but the layover in China was the one where I was a bit scared. I swear i am getting smarted as I am traveling more.. We didn't know (as we booked our flights and everything on line) that we needed a Visa for China. We thought everything was gravy because we were just a layover. Imagine our surprise when we get up to the desk and they ask for a Visa and we have blank expressions on our faces. We are walked over to room and made to stand...

'Good Morning, you wait here ok?' 'Ok' I reply. I instantly notice the worn leather hats of the horsemen snugly fitting their heads like the shells of african tortoise. Now I realize how stupid I must look in my tourist-trap cowboy hat perched like a swaying kestrel on a ledge. Shit I can't stop shivering and the altitude seems to have scrambled all my thoughts again. Ok so the company is nearly ready to go, horses lined up being manipulated into order by the horse-masters, in their hippy hor...

Nothing out of the ordinary happened this week...
Inga wasn’t well so I covered her classes on the Monday, the timetable changed which annoyed me as it made the day longer as they added a break to the afternoon, and my classes were a mixture of good and bad. The level of English from class to class varies quite a lot as does their obedience. Some of the classes are a real handful and I really pity the teachers who actually do have to teach these students.
Friday afternoon I he...

Once the ferry arrived and I went through customs, I was very suddenly standing outside the ferry terminal with no clue what to do next. According to a sign, I had the options for a taxi (but I had no idea where I wanted to go), a bus (which I doubted was running anymore), and a free shuttle to the airport. I opted for the shuttle. The drivers on the shuttle (why there were two, I don't know) argued and pointed at me for about 10 minutes- at least it sounded like an argument...

Thursday August 11th, 2005Beijing, China10:30 amHow weird it is - to actually be in The Forbidden City. I remember reading back in 6th grade about the mass killing of college students here in 70's. And now, here I am. Walking in the picture of the man infront of the tank. Only 30 years later. How crazy this all is. Large chinese buildings, all with different names corresponding to what dynasty they were from. They are large, monstorous buildings. I feel like I'm in Mulan. In Europe, I could sem...
