First on the list of outdoor adventures was visiting Hickory Nut Falls at Chimney Rock Park. Chimney Rock Park was the backdrop for the 1992 film The Last of the Mohicans starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe. My cousin and I both loved this movie because of the stunning scenery so we wanted to see it for ourselves. So we set off just after the crack of dawn to get to Chimney Rock. From our accommodations east of Asheville, we took I-40 west towards Asheville, …

About 25 miles outside of Asheville, NC, following a 4 lane road down to a twisty road, you come to the small quaint town of Chimney Rock. This is a natural fullfillment of your trip to the mountians. Here you find small shoppes and locally owned resturants with a few coffee shops. To get to the actual park you drive over a wooden bridge and start your 1 to 2 mile incline of 180 degree turns. At the end of the drive you come to vistor center and the start of the trip thru Chimn…

Wednesday was a day to explore the natural features of the Western North Carolina mountains. The previous day's rain had cleared, we would see the features! We followed US 74A southeast from Asheville to Chimney Rock. Chimney Rock is a large natural formation shaped like--a chimney. You enter the site from the highway and then follow a winding road up to the parking lot. From there, a trail leads to Chimney Rock itself, or there is also an elevator. A gift shop and cafe are located …

A friend and I visited Chimney Rock in North Carolina. We both loved to hike and had watched "The Last of the Mohicans" so we both knew we wanted to visit this quaint place while traveling through NC. Driving through it truly has an 18th century touch other than the cars. Getting out to explore the shops, everyone was so friendly and welcomed us . Most people live there, own their stores and sell various things such as clothes, antiques, gemstones, etc. We ate at this litt…

as quoted from "The Last of the Mohicans", Daniel Day Lewis. Sigh...<I love that movie!
Chimney Rock is where several scenes from that movie was filmed, including the dramatic climax when Maugua fights the Mohican Indian, kills him, pushes him off the side of the mountain, and then the British chick (who loved him but had been ransomed by Maugua) kills herself by jumping off the cliff too. Its a very stirring scene, filled with dramatic music and Daniel Day Lewis's tanned muscles...
But…
