Chill Factore Manchester Reviews
Skiing, in Summer, in Manchester Jun 27, 2010
At the moment, your intrepid reporter is learning to ski. In summer, in Manchester.
Chill Factore is an indoor ski slope, with actual snow rather than dry ski slopes. It is conveniently located near the Trafford Centre, and is easy to get to and park at by car but I suspect it would be a total pain by public transport. There is a nursery slope and a main slope, and also sledging and snow play areas for children.
Ski lessons and snowboard lessons are all taught by proper instructors and good fun. Apparently the British/ English national team trains here - of course we don't win much so I don't know what endorsement that is, but to a total beginner the facilities look great.
You can hire warm jackets and buy gloves etc here, if you have arrived in Manchester and not planned to need Arctic gear. There are also several cafes and restaurants including a Nandos.
I did a taster lesson and, for what it's worth, plan to do a beginners course. Whilst it might seem random to learn to ski in Manchester, there are advantage. For a start, this is usually a cold damp city and indoor activities are always a good find. And then there is the comedy value of going out in the hot weather and when people ask you what you did that weekend, you can tell them you went skiing. And most importantly, it means that you can learn in the comfort of the North West of England and be half way competent when you actually pay for a ski holiday with your friends.
All round, this is a good way to spend a couple of hours!
