Not Really Nice Mar 05, 2011
A bit of a walk from Old Town (about 10 minutes) and the nearest Metro station, the Chili Hostel is a very cheap option in Prague, in more ways than one.

It can be a bit of challenge to get to it. Hopefully, the booking site will give you very good directions, as the case with me from Hostelbookers. Taking some back streets, away from the busy streets, the hostel is located in a quiet neighborhood. So city noise should not be a factor. And the hostel is clearly marked, with a sign outside indicating that.

The hostel is a bit rundown, and feels like it has not been cleaned for some time. You are given 2 sets of keys. One of them to lead you to a set of rooms, while the other is for the room that you are staying in. The first door locks automatically, but the one for the individual room has to be locked or unlocked manually, so there is that tendency to leave the door unlocked. Something to remember, when leaving valuables behind.

With only toilet and shower for that section, it can be a bit problematic. But each individual room has a sink, so that save some trouble, but not by much.

The room is very basic, with bunk beds and a sink in each room. The bed did not feel comfortable, as it felt like there was a hole in the middle. Not sure how to describe it, but it did make it difficult to sleep on.

There is a kitchen and the common room, which also has a few computers with free internet access. No breakfast served at the hostel, though. And the staff are nice. But the whole place just does not feel organized at all.

While not the worst place to stay at, I have a hard time recommending it. If price is not an issue, I would suggest some other place to stay at, preferably closer to the sites.

Was OK Jun 28, 2011
Good Hostel for the price. very big and has good location.

The rooms are separated in some kind of flats with five dorms in it and two bathrooms per flat.

Recommendation to bring own flip-flops to be able to go anywhere in that place.

Nice and easy place to meet people! May 14, 2011
We had some trouble with the booking, it was the new year's eve and so full of people, but they have been so helpful, they found for us a suitable room, a safe car parking for the days, so many advices for moving in the city and enjoy typical food and nightlife. I would totally go back. Hopefully soon!!

An uncomfortable hostel. Sep 29, 2008
A co-ordinating colour scheme attempts to gloss over major discomfort. We were duped by the warm spectrum of sunbursting colors in the room: the oranges, yellows and reds of an authentic pico de gallo. But instead we got the horrid hues of Taco Bell. Bells that go off every 15 minutes - all night. Nappy duvets. And pillows, that felt like they were stuffed with plastic bags (but they were pretty).

Some of the finer points of Chili hostel is it's location directly opposite the fabulous Globe cafe and book store, free computers with internet and wifi available in the lobby and the breakfast in the cellar which wasn't bad at all and provided some opportunity to meet people in an otherwise unsociable hostel.

We were given a great recommendation to check for discounted hotels. The hostels in Prague are great for groups, but for a couple traveling together, the price of a private double room in most hostels is about the same as a room in a decent hotel. We found this to be true for The Akcent in Smichov and the 'lastminute.com. mystery hotel' gamble in a randomly selected 4* hotel. And so it was an upgrade for us to better accommodation.
