in 1097 as a dependence of the (now destroyed) monastery of San Michele alla Verruca. Romanesque arches dominate the front, some of them however have parts missing and filled up with other stonework. The tower is from the 13th and most of the upper floor from the 16th century.

Unfortunately, I can't say too much about the inside. It was closed at the time of my visit. A painting called “San Nicola saving Pisa from the Plague” from the early 15h century is said to be one of the oldest depictions of Pisa.

If you are somewhere in the East of the old town and can somehow appreciate medieval church architecture, San Nicola is worth a short stop.
