Chiesa di San Michele in Borgo Sep 15, 2017
This beautiful 10th century church is a good example for the Gothic style which is seen in many buildings of the region. Especially the loggias with characteristic arches and columns are typical for Pisan architecture of the middle ages. The facade – built in this stlye, but dating from the 14th century - reminds you of the Duomo, which is similar in age and architectural style. Inside, the columns are rather romanesque. Inside, late medieval and renaissance paintings can be seen aswell as a crucifix from the 14th century. The crypt with the remains of an even older church and a wall from a former temple of the Roman god Mars as well as the medieval cloister of an attached monastery are usually not accessible to the public.

1037 is pretty old as well, Vic! However, this is nothing compared to what I saw in Bulgaria or what you may see in the Middle East. All the best - Karl

A 10th-century church... It is simply amazing...The oldest church in our country dates back to 1037...
