Strange but worthy of a quick visit Apr 08, 2011
Constructed around the fourteenth century, this Romanesque church was a rather confusing visit. Although its age means that it has some rather old medieval frescoes, the bare brickwork that was visible inside seemed a little strange. I thought there was a lack of effort here, or perhaps a lack of funds. Even the chapels, some decorated as recently as the nineteenth century, didn’t seem to fit into place. The black and white striped effect of the interior was rather striking though, and reminded me of a couple of other churches I had seen in Italy. Overall though, I thought this was a church that seemed at odds and lacked a cohesive feel with the decoration. Worth a quick visit though.
