Although a church has been on this site since the eighth century, the church you see today is largely down to the construction that took place during the eleventh to the thirteenth centuries. Constructed in a Romanesque style, one of the interesting bits of trivia about the place is that it houses the remains of the family doctor for the Scala family (at the height of their power in Verona). More conventionally, the church is known for housing the relics of Saints Fermo and Rustico, as well as having chapels that are consistently well-decorated. Beneath the ground floor, the Chiesa Inferiore section is worth looking at too, as it allows access to some of the oldest parts of the church and shows many well-preserved frescoes. Well worth a trip while in Verona.
