Chickamauga Battlefield is a 5200 acres and was the last major Confederate victory during the Civil War and the most significant defeat for the Union in the west. It is estimated that nearly 35,000 men died. Some of the major points can be found along a 7 mile self-guiding auto tour that contain monuments and historical tablets. There are lots of trails and paved roads to walk, hike, bike, rollerblade or horseback ride. It is a great place to go on a picnic. The Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center contains exhibits of over 300 examples of military guns.

The park is open from sunrise to sunset, but the Visitors Center is only open from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and closed on Christmas Day.
