So I get to the bus station the next day and the bus gate I go to is number 9 (which I thought was ironic because of that song I knew as a kid) and I call all my friends to find a way home...sigh...they all have lives and finally Laurie came to my rescue and agreed to come get me at midnight from the bus station.  I sat on the bus for what seemed like ever by myself.  And finally at Elyria (maybe) in Ohio a girl (18 years-old) sat down next to me.  It ...

Getting my visa
posted by:
Sep 15, 2007 - Sep 22, 2007
In August, I went to the Polish Consulate in Chicago, to submit paperwork in order to get my visa for my entire stay in Poland (18 months). On my walk there from the train station, I watched 3 or 4 Navy (or Air Force, or something) jets zip all around Chicago's air space at super fast speeds. I also walked past many many trailers & equipment trucks for the filming of "The Dark Knight" which is the new 2008 Batman film being shot in Chicago.  Whether these two thing had anything to do...

Chicago!

Some of the buildings in Chicago are amazing as well as the public art. I love Picasso and the sculpture in the loop was incredible. All the kids were sliding down the elephant looking sculpture. My favorite sculpture is the Flamingo on Daley Center. We only drove by. It was the last day and we wanted to go to Burham Park by the planetarium and take the best pictures with the city skyline. Buckingham fountains were absolutely beautiful during the day and even more so at night with the li...

The Chicago Lakefront Trail portion of the GIT is a 10-mile paved path along the shore of Lake Michigan. 3. Millenium Park 4. Navy Pier 5. Sears Tower Skydeck 6. Outstanding pizza :)

Going there... Going back home
posted by:

So there isn't a whole lot to tell about the way there. We were stuck in traffic, for no apparent reason, we later found out. There was no construction, just a bunch of clogged up cars. But anyways, I took a pic of the horse... Cuz I was bored. Then I tried to get a pic of the Sears Tower in Chicago, but it didn't really turn out. And then theres the plane. It looked a lot closer in person. Ok, so they're not that interesting.. I know, but I don't get to do much travelling anymore.

Although we had some difficulty in Chicago the city proved to be quite charming. To a New Yorker, Chicago is too strikingly similar to be anything exceptional. Except for it's impeccable cleanliness, relative lack of noise pollution, and gorgeous architecture, the Big Apple easily supersedes the Windy City as a major metropolis. If you're looking for quaint, tranquil, well-groomed, and a peace of mind in a major city than I'd say head on over to the blues town. Since our itinerary wa...

After leaving Long Island & saying goodbye to our Aunt, we conquered Manhattan (again!!) & arrived at our mahoosive hotel room in New Jersey; very happy bunnies indeed :o)  After the best nights sleep yet we met our trek group for the 1st time & also our crazy tour guide Paul. By 8am we were all in Betsy (the van) & off on the road. 1st stop - Niagara Falls beautiful place; although is not as big as we thought it would be! Still very impressive & we got ab...

The Windy City
posted by:
Oct 23, 2007
I just returned from 4 days in "The Windy City".  I was fortunate enough to be traveling to Chicago in October during a period of unseasonably delightful weather.Thursday night I hit up the bars in and around Wrigleyville.  I had such a good time, I can't remember any names other than I highly recommend sampling some of the concoctions at the Goose Island Brewery.Friday evening I hit up Mothers Night Club on Division just north of Rush.  This is a good area to cruise and...

Culture Shock

It had been a somewhat hectic trip. We'd been delayed out from Heathrow, first by bad weather, and then by a cantankerous passenger who wanted an upgrade to first class that the airline couldn't give him. The man had been of Indo-Pak origin, but of that odd generic cut that all British Indians seem to get after a generation or so.I was kept entertained during the trip by a British lady, who was travelling to the US for the summer holidays with her daughter, her son-in-law (or was it the other...

Worst Flight Ever

I have come to really hate Lufthansa Airlines.  it has nothing do with their service, but i swear that someone places people in their seats has something against me.  i do not know the reason why.  I always try to be polite and nice when flying, but they always place me next to people most people do not want to sit next to, especially on an 8 hour flight.  From Frankfurt to Chicago i was stuck in the middle seat between two women.  Now, usually this alone would be eno...

Bit of a setback.....
posted by:

Good thing I arrived home to Chicago last night, instead of today.  Apparently the UK had discovered a plot to blow up some planes on its way from the UK to the US, and now they are not allowing any liquids (toothpaste, shampoo, drinks, etc.) in the carry on luggage.  There were delays for hours and hours today.  But I luckily got home safely last night without too much incident.

Biking the Drive
posted by:
May 25, 2008
Bike the Drive is an annual event (started in 2002, I believe) that occurs on the Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend. The City of Chicago closes 15 miles of Lakeshore Drive (Highway 41) that runs along the coast of Lake Michigan to vehicular traffic and opens the lanes for several thousand bicyclists.  The Lakeshore Drive (LSD) closure lasts about 5 hours and begins around sunrise and ends around 11 am.  I have ridden in this event several times since it’s beginning and I always e...
