Fabulous (and weird) Italian food in Chicago Sep 24, 2008
The Chicago Oven Grinder and Pizza Company is definitely a unique place. I invited a whole group of people out to this joint on a Tuesday night and it was absolutely jammed-packed. Thank God I had a reservation! This place is tiny inside and reminds me of someone's basement with a bar in it. They serve pizza pot pies (not real pizzas, almost like pizza without a bottom). They are quite delicious, but take forever to cook. The pounder is easily eaten by a grown man. The salads are enormous and come with every possible piece of antipasto you could imagine. The one horrible, horrible, thing about this place: THEY DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING BESIDES CASH. Overall, big thumbs up for beer and pizza pot pie.
