Soaring above Chiba City Mar 20, 2005
The Chiba Urban Monorail is a rapid transit system serving Chiba City. It's unusual among major ubran transit systems in that it is a monorail. It is a suspended monorail, too, with cars traveling underneath the beamway. In fact, at 15.2 km it is the world's longest suspended monrail system.

The monorail can take you from downtown to the JR station (rail connections to Tokyo and Narita Airport) and to Chiba Port and other destinations. Tickets are sold via ticket machines and fares vary according to distance traveled. Signage is in Japanese. I was able to figure out the station I wanted by matching the characters on a map.

Riding in a suspended car, one has the feeling of flying over the city. The beamway rises and falls in height along the route, further enhancing the feeling of flight. Ride it just for the experience!
