Chiba Port Tower Reviews
A bird's eye view of Chiba and Tokyo Bay Mar 20, 2005
Chiba Port Tower is a 137m tower overlooking the port of Chiba. The diamond-shaped tower looks like a high-rise office building, but it is really intended as an observation deck. The tower was opened in 1986 to commemorate the Chiba region exceeding 5 million in population.
Chiba Port Tower has four occupied floors. The ground floor has displays about Chiba, an exhibition hall, and the elevators to the upper levels. The main observation deck is on Level 4 at 113m. The observation deck offers a panoramic views of Chiba City, the port, and on a clear day, a view across Tokyo Bay to Tokyo. It's said one can sometimes see Mt. Fuji. (It was raining and overcast when I was there.) A cafe also with a panoramic view is on Level 3 at 109m. Live music performances take place on Level 2.
Admission is 410 Yen.
A popular flea market is often held on Sundays in the park next to the tower.
