Again at 08:00 the guide came to wake everybody up and we had breakfast (scrambled eggs instead of a boiled one this time). After breakfast we started walking again. An hour later we got into a car and went driving for about 2 hours. We had lunch at an elephant camp (take-out food again, but this t…

The train journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai was pretty much an all day event, starting at 8.30am and arriving 12 hrs later. Much prefered the day journey, gave us an opportunity to see some sweet little towns, farmers working in the rice fields and plenty more temples on the way.
Upon arriva…

So my 1st week was a frantic one - I landed in Bangkok and spent 3 days there acclimatizing and site seeing - I had completely forgotten how huge the city is and polluted. There is one new addition though - the sky rail and metro (underground) which was not there in 2001 when I was last in Thailan…

With
an extra 30 days in Thailand, we had to work out exactly how long we
could reasonably stay in Chiang Mai and still see the parts of the
country which we had wanted to see. We figured about 2 weeks.
So there began our countdown to leaving
Chiang Mai. Realising we hadn't actually seen m…

Went for a Thai cooking class today. The bloke took us to the local market and to all these stalls to show & explain to us all the different ingredients which are used in Thai cooking. It was really interesting but as I thought most of what he said has escaped me so I'll skip to the cooking. He…

Nice Place bookmarks:
If you stay at Nice Place 1 or 2 in Chiang Mai, don't be surprised if you get very strange love letters in the form of bookmarks from them.
Mine claimed: 'For Chelsea... You'll always be in our memory... Nice Place II Chiang Mai Thailand'.
Als was a little more ridicu…

We arrived in Chaing Mai, 8 years after first coming here. Stayed in the old centre like most people, just a few doors down from the Baan Thai cooking school. We enrolled on a day course and paid over our 900 baht each thinking this is a lot of money, hope its worth …

Day two of our trek consisted of 2 hour hike down the mountain in the morning until we reached the starting point of the rafting. From there we were split up into groups of 4 for each raft and made our way down towards the bottom of the mountain. Unfortunately the rafting was fairly tame and we did…

Hello hello,
Today's my fifth day in Chiang Mai, and I'm forcing myself to update for two reasons:
1) The further I fall behind, the more reluctant I am to update. While I log in relatively often to add new entries, every time I do so I think 'wow I still haven't written anything a…

We went to visit Doi Suthep Temple today, situated at the top of a very steep windy road, which didn't do Lisa any good because she suffers from motion sickness. She made it though so its all good! Before we got there, we had 304 steps to get up. I just went for it and shot up those steps…
