The quite monastery Dec 11, 2016
The Chi Lin nunnery is a pretty old monastery located in Kowloon pretty far from the central parts around the harbor. The monastery in from the 1930’s but it was rebuilt entirely in wood without using any nails in 1998 so the building style is a bit old fashioned and give the impression of a building which is older than what is actually the case.

The building complex is the biggest cluster of hand crafted timber buildings. The buildings are located around a large courtyard which is very nice with a small pond. There are a lot of nice trees in the courtyard which is kind of bonsai style – just a bit bigger than what I usually consider traditional bonsai trees.

It is easy to get to the nunnery using the MRT to the Diamond Hill station. If you go out there and visit the nunnery you really should go and have a look at the Nan Lian garden next to the nunnery. Both attractions are free to visit so the only cost involved is the price of the MRT to and from your accommodation.
