Chez Maman San Francisco Reviews

After I had a great experience at Chez Maman in Moscow I decided to try Chez Maman is San Francisco. As a result- except the name- almost nothing is in common. And shouldn't be- it is 2 different cafe in the same style- french style bistro.

Menu offer traditional French cuisine made simple with fresh, local California ingredients, comfort and simplicity of the southern countryside. From classic baked escargot to fresh yet savory beef tartare, even the delicacies are adorned minimally to highlight the flavors, but avoid overpowering and overcomplicating the dish.

This place suits for everyone: those seeking an entrée of lamb brochettes or simply craving some oysters mariniere with a glass of crisp rosé.

Chez Maman is pretty small, 7 tables inside, the biggest one for 6 persons, 5 small tables outside. So I don't recommend coming here with large groups. However, it is the perfect place for a date or a catch-up brunch date with a couple of friends.

The Escargot de Bourgogne made with parsley, butter, shallots and wine were just delicious!

Crepes are served all day and there are some interesting choices on the menu.

Small bistros are fun, as we always tend to chat with neighbors and ask them about what they are having. We spoke to sweet international couple (she is local and he is from Paris)

They were impressed with their choices of the authentic French Onion Soup, esc and a Chicken Panini.

When we are in that area again - definitely will be back!
