Why this B&B doesn't attract more visitors, I'll never know! May 06, 2016
Meet Chris! She's not your typical Tesco mum out shopping on Friday for the latest Adele record and Ribena, but she's a 1-woman powerhouse that runs this beautiful establishment on Hope Road - The Chestnuts. This is a labour of love of Chris and her son (Luke, who claims he works only during the winter!), the results show, and how!

The hotel is well located. It's a stone's throw away from both the beach as well as the train station of ol' Shanklin town. Infact, everything is literally a 10 or a 15 minute walk away - the Village, the city centre, the bus station. Hungry and couldn't be arsed walking to town though? Fear not - there's a a Chinese, chippy and pizza takeaway all in sight from the hotel. So's the bus stop with direct services to both Ryde and Newport.

Rooms: very comfortable beds and bathrooms (complete with hair dryer, tea and coffee, and if you're nice - some biscuits). Each room comes with a TV, and the WiFi access in each room is spotless.

Main area: Lots of open space and sunshine flowing through. My favourite part was the abundance of brochures of the island that makes planning your vacation on the Isle of Wight easy as 1-2-3.

Breakfast: The hotel serves free breakfast, and the menu is grand - there's a good choice of veg and non-veg with an abundant choice of cereals.

I will say though that breakfast is typically served at 830a. Chris does make exceptions (like if you've got an early train to catch). But, if you are dependent on public transport, plan your itinerary for the day quite robustly as bus frequencies aren't all that great on the island (once every 30 minutes during peak hours as well at times) and a 9am start from the hotel (after breakfast) means you could potentially reach your first sightseeing spot of the day around noon! If you need to have breakfast earlier, PLEASE ASK.

Overall, I'd rate this hotel very highly. Infact, the biggest mystery, as the title of my review says is why it doesn't attract enough clientele! I was there for a long weekend, a VERY sunny one I might add, and given the proximity of the island to mainland England, there were hoardes of mainlanders visiting the island. Almost all B&Bs in Shanklin were booked solid but I was the only one staying in this hotel of 10 rooms for 4 straight days!
