The small local restaurant Oct 24, 2013
After arriving at Hotel Marrakesh we are getting a bit hungry and decide to go out for lunch. We don’t get far - actually only next door where we take a quick look at the menu of a little restaurant on the street. The menu looks pretty good and the prices look reasonable. So we go into the restaurant to have a look at it.

The inside of the restaurant is pretty - it got three rooms which are all decorated in old Moroccan style. So we decide to have our lunch here. But there is a small problem - there are no waiter to be seen anywhere. After a while we quickly chat to an American man who seems to have all his meals here and the shouts down the stair to the kitchen to call Mustafa and let him no he got new customers. He comes up with a menu for us and we have a look at it - and then he disappears again. This seems to happen continuously Mustafa is just disappearing. Later we find out the reason for these repeated disappearances. The restaurant is a one man show - Mustafa are the chef, waiter and doing the dishes in addition to this.

The food arrive - but it isn’t coming exactly what we ordered - somehow the meatball tagine has been transformed into a scrimp tagine. But the food taste good so we don’t complain. The salad and soup are both excellent and prices are very reasonable.

Since we enjoyed the lunch we decided to go back for dinner at the same place - but change from one room to another since they had slightly different decoration and different colours in the rooms. At dinner we order the same salad, and soup - but both are slightly different from what we had gotten at lunch time. We are happy with this version as well so there is no reason for us to complain about it. The scrimp tagine came out as scrimps with a supplement of squid while the meatball tagine actually came out as a meatball tagine this time around.

The food is good value for money - you should just be ready to expect some sort of improvising on behalf of the chef since he doesn’t take notes when he take the orders - and he seems unable to remember exactly what people has been ordering.
