Chattanooga is located in Southeast Tennessee near the border of Georgia at the junction of four interstates. At a population of about 160,000 and a total area of 143.2 square miles, it is the 4th largest city in the state. The most prominent natural features in and around Chattanooga are the Tennessee River, Missionary Ridge and Lookout and Signal Mountains.
Chattanooga is the site of several Civil War battlefields, the main one being Chickamauga Battlefield just across the border into North Georgia.
There are many attractions such as the Tennessee Aquarium, Bessie Smith Hall, various museums, and the Appalachian Trail which bring thousands of people to the area. Several well known events occur here, such as the Riverbend Festival and the Fall Railroad Color Cruise. There is the Creative Discovery Museum for children.
