comfortable mountain hut Oct 08, 2006
This is one of the least basic mountain huts in the Tatras. I think there are dorm rooms too, but we usually get a double. Bathrooms are shared, and there isn't always hot water (but then again, some other huts don't even have running water).
The view of the lake and the surrounding mountains is great. From the restaurant or the terrace, you can see the hikers come down the red trail. It's a long, zigzaggy descent to the lake, and it's fun to follow the ant-sized hikers' progress.
The food at the restaurant is quite good, especially the fish. You can get snacks such as hot-dogs outside. As the hut is accessible by road and noone has to carry up barrels of beer on their back, the price of beer is lower here than in the more remote huts.
You can use this hut as a base for climbing Mt. Rysy (though I prefer staying at the more basic but very cool Chata pod Rysmi higher up) or Koprovsky stit or visiting the Hincovo lakes.
