Where to start your visit to the Charlestown Navy Yard Sep 14, 2017
Located in the Charlestown neighborhood, the Charlestown Navy Yard Visitor Center is a starting point to visiting the Charlestown Navy Yard. Also known as the Boston Navy Yard. Getting to it, just follow the Freedom Trail from the Charlestown Bridge. When the trail splits into 2, make a right along the water, to get to the Charlestown Navy Yard.

The Charlestown Navy Yard consists of multiple sites, which will be reviewed separately for the most part. They include the Visitor Center, USS Cassin Young, USS Constitution and USS Constitution Museum. This one will be about the Visitor Center.

The Visitor Center is a good place to pick up some information on visiting the Navy Yard. And it has a short film and a small museum, that tells the history of the Charlestown Navy Yard, and its key role in helping America to build a navy. Built in 1801, it was key to help build the USS Constitution and other ships, to help protect American merchant ships in the seas, against other nations.

The museum does have a good set of artifacts, and does give really good descriptions on the history of the place. Not really extensive, as it can be seen in a relatively short time. And it is free to see.

I would say, definitely worth a look if time permits. But not a complete loss if you have to skip it to see other sites in the Navy Yard.

Admission is free!
