Psst.. can I tell you a secret?

The Charlestown Cafe in West Seattle is a local institution that has somehow managed to miss out on major notoriety, well, inside Seattle anyway. This unassuming place serves up some of the best new england clam chowdah in the entire country and it has the awards to prove it. Honestly, if you like clam chowder you're in for a real treat and even if you don't (heathen), they have a good menu complete with heaping salads and your normal diner fare. But honestly, the reason to go is for the chowder (at least in my mind) and for the local community scene. Its a real treat to grab a table on a Sunday and watch everyone come in after Sunday service, dressed in their best, esp. the older couples.

Fridays, the chowder is served in a sourdough bread bowl but if you miss that (that's a mix made in heaven), get the feature dish in a bowl with a side bun and some crackers and chow down (no pun intended). You can escape full and happy for under $10.
