Charlesmark Hotel Boston Reviews

nice botique hotel Nov 15, 2010
The Charlesmark Hotel is centrally located in Boston just by the Copley Square subway stop. The hotel is a boutique with approximately 20 rooms over 6 floors. The first floor is a trendy cocktail bar connected to a sofa lounge where the morning breakfast is served. The lounge has a few large flat screen TVs for viewing.

Upon checking in I received a key for the front door and one for the room as they lock the front door once the bar closes (it closes pretty late). The room was a good size with a queen bed, a modern shelving system with a TV that can double as a desk. There is a folding chair in the closet that you can use with the desk. The room was very clean, modern looking and very comfortable for the 3 days I spent there. The free internet and free HBO on demand were nice features that keep those extra expenses down.

The bathroom was also modern with new fixtures, dark stone tiles and the usual towels and toiletries on offer. The rooms also have an iron and an ironing board but otherwise are kept pretty basic. Some of the rooms face out to Boylston Street which isn’t much of a view at the Copley Library but would be better than the back views. I had a back view which was overlooking an alley down to Newbury Street which also housed the air conditioning units so there was some fan noise.

The breakfast wasn’t much more than coffee or tea with bagels and donuts served. Sadly there was no toaster so bagels were eaten raw but they did the job. Overall it isn’t the kind of place for luxury and relaxation it is more of a functional spot probably best for business or tourists looking to spend most time on the streets of Boston. The price, when I went, was quite cheap compared to the full service hotels in the area and since I travel on business the luxuries of the full service hotels rarely get used anyway.

I wouldn’t recommend taking kids here as the rooms are on the small side and there isn’t much else to do but couples or singles would find it very adequate. I’d go back again on future business trips. The location is really impressive; you can’t get much more central than Copley Square.

sadly didn't have my camera with me, don't usually bring it for business travel. Especially not to cities I used to live in! I'm sure I'll go back so will try and get an update to the review!
