Charles Bathurst Inn Reeth Reviews
Good honest Yorkshire Grub with a Gastro twist Nov 26, 2009
If you coming from Richmond there are only two roads out of Reeth, one continues up Swaledale and the other (turn right before The Buck) heads up Arkengarthdale. If you follow this road the CB in on the right. You can't miss it, there is nothing else anywhere around!
The CB (as it's know be locals), is situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales most spectacular scenery. It is named after Charles Bathurst a lord of the local manor when it was built in the 18th century.
The food is not what you'd expect to find in the middle of the dales, it is warm and filling but it has a air of gastro pub about it. It is all seasonal and sourced locally. The menu is written on a mirror above a roaring fire, a welcome sight from the wind and rain which you leave outside.
There is plenty of choice, I opted for the prawn and crayfish cocktail to start followed by beef and dumplings. Ok so my food choice was typical Yorkshire pub grub but other choices include Fillet of Smoked Haddock on Baby Leaf Spinach with Quail Egg or Breast of Duck with Beetroot Puree. The food is all great and comes in large portions with potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
If you’re so inclined you can wash it all down with a pint of Black Sheep Yorkshire Bitter, delivered straight from the Brewery at Masham. I'm not really a bitter fan so I opted for a ginger beer!
I have not stayed the night here, but it does have 19 rooms at around the £100 a night mark.
