Exploring Charas Cave, Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia Aug 01, 2015
After spending a night in Cherating, we were on our way back to Kuala Lumpur then we decided to explore Charas Hill in Kuantan, Pahang. In English we call it Charas Hill will Malaysian netizens call it Bukit Charas.

Bukit Charas is located 25km north west of Kuantan Pahang. Bukit Charas was created by nature more than 400 million years ago by limestone and granite. Inside Bukit Charas there is temple cave found in the limestone hill of Bukit Charas. According to The Tourism Malaysia plaque, placed outside the cave, the hill 1000 meters high above sea level.

Here is the direction to go to Gua Charas for those who take the LPT highway. I suggest following the “Kuantan” signboard going to Gua Charas. It’s only taken 20 minutes to reach it, from the exit. There is no public transport to go there. You have either drive your own car or rent one. Suggest you rent a 4 wheel drive.

Charas cave is also known as Gua Charas. In the northern flank you can find both Hindu and Buddist temples such as the Sleeping Buddha . The cave is a holy place for both believers; the holy symbols and statues are dotted around the interior of this vast cavern.

Upon arrival, each car has to pay RM2, as state on the board. Then the journey of to climbing till mouth of Charas cave starts. To reach mouth of Charas cave, you has top climbing the stairs available. The scenery of wild and the pollution free, clean air will be feast to your eyes and refreshing.

Once you reach to the mouth of Charas Cave, there will be a track for us to go to The Sleeping Buddha. In this cave which is popular among Hindus believers for example, there are Black pillars named Jala Linggam, representing the deity, Lord Shiva.

The cave is a bit messy because of jumbled rocks which are all over the place. The air is damp and dark. In the dark recesses, the sound of bat screeching will pierce your ears.

I went there to see the Sleeping Buddha, according to guide; there are 5 elements near the Sleeping Buddha like the direct sunlight which shine the Sleeping Buddha.
