Chapel Bridge and Water Tower of Lucerne Sep 18, 2015
When you think of Luzern, an image of the famous bridge, known as the Chapel Bridge which is linked to the Water Tower comes to mind. It is also linked with the octagon shaped Water Tower which was built during the first half of the 14th century (thus it predates the bridge). Do also check out the old stork’s nest.

This bridge was built in the middle of the 14th century as part of the city’s fortification and named after St. Peter’s Chapel which is located nearby. Paintings (on the roof) that we see as we walk along the bridge were added during the 17th century illustrating scenes of Swiss and local history including the city patron saints. Note that part of this bridge were destroyed during a fire in 1993 and a large portion of bridge and paintings were destroyed. I think this is amongst the first monuments that I have visited that was destroyed during my lifetime as usually you hear about monuments being destroyed during the medieval ages or during the Wars!

Note that it can get crowded at this bridge. Pics to be uploaed.
