If you're traveling to Beijing when the weather is good, make sure to spend an evening at Chaoyang Park (north Beijing, Chaoyang District). This unique outside and inside entertainment area adjoins a large pond. On any summer night, you can soak up the sounds of great live bands and nightclubs featuring international music.
The action is on the south and west sides of the pond. As Portia wisely noted in one of the comments, you probably want to enter at the south or west gate to prevent a lot of extra walking. I sat on the west side for about two hours at an outdoor bar/cafe listening to an acoustic guitar duo perform 60's and 70's songs (The Beatles, The Eagles, Herman's Hermits, etc.). Everyone (a 90% Chinese audience) sang along in English. The park also offers paddle boats, shopping and a wide variety of restaurants. As one of the Beatles' lyrics says, "A splendid time is guaranteed for all!" :-D |
