Fun Easy Day Hike Near the Tarn Gorge, France Jul 26, 2013
About a 40-60 minute drive from the Tarn Gorge in Southern France, depending which route you take and how many times you stop for photos, is Montpellier le-Vieux, a collection of rock formations so named by the shepherds who thought that from a distance the rock spires rising above the limestone plateau looked like an ancient city, calling it vieux (old) Montpellier, the only city they knew.

Today color coded pathways weave through the named dolomite rock formations scattered through the Causse Noir (a limestone plateau), including climbs to two scenic view points. The best views are on the red path at Doaminai. A fun, pretty and relatively easy hike, we walked most every path with numerous stops for photos and a quick lunch in just over 2 hours.

Interesting scenery, and the rocks are a lot larger than they appear!
