finally, today it was time to visit phi phi lay ( / leh), the sister island where the beach from the movie 'the beach' was filmed. still skeptical about boat trips since the debacle in nha trang i only booked a sunset tour from 1500 to 1900. tours are quite expensive (450 baht) partly because of national park fees, but include non-alcoholic drinks and fried rice dinner. and the boat trip was actually quite nice! the backpacker crowd on board and a quiet guide :) first stop for some snorkeling...

The next day we woke up and went for breakfast. What a great view…and this really was a quiet place J
After that, we met at the beach with our guide. Hoped in to the longtail and went straight to our first stop.
It was a ½ hour ride to the first island (koh hong, I think..). It was a national park with a lovely bay with thousands of fishies…and not many people.
This island was hit by the tsunami in 2004 and you could still see many boats destroyed in the mid...

I miss them, not only the beach but the old team. That was the last time that i had a chance to have fun with them. Even though travel with a big group was a fuss but that was the best fuss i have ever had.

I was working in phuket at the end of 2006. However, I met this family who want to go to Lanta island for work/holiday. So, i asked them to tag along.. I do not wish to bore you with the detail on how I convince them to take me with them. (Let just say, they are really nice family)
We left phuket early morning, the road trip is going north pass Phuket International airport and cross the bridge toward mainland thailand. The trip take around three half hour, although we stop by to ...

Last week I went for an oil massage (250 baht, 1 hour) in a rather dingy green, backroom of a massage shop in Ao Luk...whilst laying there semi naked I turned round to find one of the students I teach , she works there as a masseur - slightly embarrasing! Whilst the massage was lovely and relaxing, my legs were still in agony after walking up and down the 1237 steps at the tiger temple - I tried to explain in actions to the the masseur to go gently. she did for ...

Spent all day today travelling to Krabbi. First a taxi, then boat, then a random trailer bus thing, thena local bus which was boiling and people took buckets of fish on, thought it would be 10mins but actually over 2 hours! Then a tuktuk and then a coach and then another trailer bus thing. Eventually found a place to stay in krabbi Grabbed some thai food with another canadian guy, incidentally with the same name as the one from yesterday! The food was pretty spicy, at poi...

The low cost flight from BKK to Phuket by Airasia is not to bad, i spend only 3,000 Baht for round trip. The transportation is not easy except you stay in the popular beach as Patong, Karon and Kata. For my case, i stay in Cha Long Bay, it's not popular beach and the beach is not quite beautiful when comparing to the Patong and Karon because Cha Long Bay is the Fishing and Speed Boat Port for going to PP Island.
The best way if you have only afew day...

Any trip to Phuket is never complete without a day excursion (at least) to the the world-famous Ko Phi Phi Don (Big Phi Phi Island) and Ko Phi Phi Leh (Small Phi Phi Island), otherwise known simply as Phi Phi Islands. Normally I would have lumped the photos and this blog separately as in the more recent trips to Phuket, but since this was my very first of many many trips there, I chose to set them as one. [ See my other Phuket blogs here: Phuket 2007 (Again) | Phuket 2007 |&nb...

so much has happened in the last 4 hrs. we got lost in the jungle in twilight and I wound up trudging ankle-deep in some kind of toxic waste/oil dump before leading a search party with flashlights to find arthur, but that comes later.
I'll first talk about 2 nights ago (was it 2 days? I can barely recall the flow of time) - our last night in chiang mai was spent at a place called chiang mai saloon - it was recommended to us by some other travellers that went on the g...
