Chang Rai Elephant Tours Reviews
Elephants in Chang Rai Mar 22, 2011
There are few place's on Earth, were we get close to nature. I consider my trip to Northern Thailand one of those moments. I was lucky enough to travel with a great group of friends to Chang Rai in 2005. The highlight of the tour was our 4 hour Elephant trek through the serene forest that surrounds Chang Rai.
After treking for the first few hours, up hills and down river gorges, I noticed the elephants seemed a little annoyed with their drivers. There was good reason for their discomfort it was 40C + that day. The drivers were hot too, but pushed the great animals to our final destination.
The elephants began picking up the pace once we could hear the sounds of a massive waterfall in the distance. We leveled out onto the river bed and into view of this awesome pool of water with forrest the and a 20m waterfall in the back ground. The drivers whispered something into the elephant ear and it started a charged into the water with fearless ambition. It was hang on or fall off !!
For 2 hours we played with these gentle giants in the water. From tug-a-war to trunk wrestling, all fear was removed with the games they would play. The elephants took alot of pursuading to get out the water and head home..
We all love food when we are hungry :)
