You would never believe that Laos is located between two visited countries such as Thailand and Vietnam, unless you go there and see it. Unlike those two countries, beautiful as well but much more tourist, Laos seems to belong to another planet. You´ll notice it by looking at the people. Children and adults will wave and smile to you not because they want to get something from you, but just because they are authentic. Laos is a jewel not found yet. Hopefully it will last forever...

The two islands were not that big and I was in a mood to see more of the region the following day. I planned to book a half day tour in one of the travel agencies next to our bamboo cottage, Pavel and Mit quickly agreed to join me. Even Veronique was interested. Sergej on the other hand enjoyed cyc…

Got a boat across the Mekong to Don Daeng with Laughing Buddha's son. The island was full of cows and there was part of the beach that literally had a carpet of cow pats on it. Found some stupid rip-off hotel resort that charges $80 PER NIGHT!!! (and they wanted $8 just to use the swimming pool). R…

9/19/06 Everything was going fine in the minivan as we drove back to Pakse to get on the boat until I said something to Cindy about my camera. She reached in her daypack fumbling around as I watched the panic on her face grow, realizing that she had left her camera back at Saesi. Luckily we weren'…

Through jungles and temples - Laos & Cambodia 2008: Champasak Travel Photos

Nov 09, 2008 – Dec 05, 2008
My first time start-to-end backpacking trip and my first time in a tropical country... and it was great! We first took a boat up north to a fishing village and then went down to beautiful Luang Prabang, next to partytown Vang Vieng and finally to Vientiane. The overnight bus brought us to Pakse with an impressive two day jungle treck through Xe Pian NPA. After a stay at the 4000 islands we crossed the border to Phnom Penh and the temples of Angkor and went back from Saigon.
