Bosnian 'fast food' Jun 20, 2014
When you arrive in Sarajevo, you will be most certainly told to try one of the local specialities 'Chevap' or 'Cevapcici' which is a dish made of grilled minced meat served usually in flat bread with onions and kaymak (creamy dairy product). The place to find the best Bosnian Chevap is Baščaršija district of Sarajevo (right in the centre of Sarajevo down-town).

Following good advice of our hostel hosts, we made our way towards Baščaršija district to find Cevabdzinica Zeljo 1 here.

The place was busy filled with locals and some tourists, but we quickly found a table and were immediately approached by a waitress. She offered us drinks and some advice on what to order (sidewise).

Main dishes served here are Cevapcici of various sizes, so food choice is quite limited, but that is exactly why these places could be called 'fast food' restaurants. The food is served very quickly, but unlike McDonald's, it is cooked fresh on an open fire charcoal grill.

The flavour and texture combination of grilled meat with bread and kaymak is amazingly tasty. And there is no need to wait for your order too long. Great advantage for those with empty tummies.

When the bill arrived, we noticed quite surprisingly that our drinks were nearly as expensive as the meal I ordered. And the meal was big enough to fill me up.

Total for our meal with drinks - around €9.50 which is a great price for such good quality food. Definite must eat if you are visiting Sarajevo.
