Cesme is a small town on a peninsula about 1.5 hours west of Izmir by road. It is a resort visited predominantly by Turkish holiday makers, and as such it retains a really unspoilt atmosphere. The castle on the harbour front makes a stunning centrepoint for an unspoilt and friendly holiday destination.
Cesme has a small town beach, but is within easy reach of several fantastic beaches by Dolmush (mini-bus) including natural hot springs in nearby Illica. The surrounding coast is full of beautiful Turkish villages with excellent fish restaurants and local markets to explore. It is also possible to catch a ferry from Cesme to the nearby Greek island of Chios.
This destination is prefect for those people who want to get a little bit off the beaten track and away from the tourists, but still retain comfortable surroundings. The pace of life in Cesme is slower than in the larger resorts, but that's all part of its charm.
