A beautiful view of Bogotá! Nov 03, 2009
Ride the gondola or funicular (railroad) up the hill to the peak of Monserrate, at 3,150 meters above sea level. It's a spectacular view, day or night. At the top, there's also a church, good restaurants and souvenir shops, as well as lots of greasy eateries.
Unfortunately, the hiking path was closed when we went. The cable car and train have great views, but might be a bike expensive for some.

…altura, el sol calienta rapido, desayunamos bien temprano en un localcito en la calle cerca del hotel y nos fuimos a la base del cerro Monserrate para subir a la cima que esta ubicada a 3160 metros y asi tener una vista general de la ciudad de Bogota. La idea de ir bien temprano para poder ver la ciudad antes que el smog tapara todo, lo cual ocurrio… Subida al Cerro Monserrate |

After checking out Candelaria, I headed towards the Cerro de Monserrate. Cerro de Monserrate is a mountain framing the eastern edge of Bogota. It is crowned with a church visible from the entire city, and can be reached either by a tram or a funicular railroad. Sunday is also the day that… Super Sunday is a great day in Bogota. |

We took a funicular up to Cerro de Monserrate, a 3160 meter peak that is home to a church and provides a great lookout for the city. Incidentally, Bogota itself is about 2600 meters above sea level (the third highest capital in S. America) and the temperture was very cool… No Entiendo! |
