Cerro Chirripo Vacation Guide
At 3820 metres the Cerro Chirripó is the highest mountain of Costa Rica, which can be climbed by anyone with an average level of fitness. For some strange reason though it is ignored by the largest chunk of visitors to the country.
The Parque Nacional Cerro Chirripó lies a few kilometres from the town of San Gerardo de Rivas which serves as a starting point for the 16 kilometre climb up to the lodge at the summit area. From there it is another 6 kilometres to the top of Cerro Chirripó.
The view from the top of the Chirripó is stunning and on clear days one can see both the Atlantic and Pacific ocean from here.
Sunrise is a particularly good time to be here, though it means you will have to do the summit climb in the dark.
