Great hike, but exhausting! Mar 27, 2009
Hiking to the volcanic lake of Cerro Chato is a great experience though exhausting. It says only 3 kilometers towards it and back. But it is really steep and the last kilometer is like climbing through the jungle (you´ll need your hands as well to get up). Once there it´s worth the climb, Cerro Chato is a green colored lake, a bit cold but that can be quite refreshing after such a long hike. Make sure that you leave in time as the total hike will take 5 to 6 hours.

I paid ten dollars to do the hike, as it is private property. Not a fair amount for just a hike i think. Though there is a free option, just climb over a bunch of fences (total explanation is found at Gringo Pete´s), and you got yourself a great and free hike!
