Cheap place for food next to downtown Sep 02, 2012
Riga's central market was built in the early part of the 20th century from 5 tops of old Zeppelin hangers. This gives it a very strange and unique architecture compared to a lot of the art nouveau buildings in other parts of the town. There are a lot of stalls that sit on the outside of the buildings that sell anything from fresh fruit and vegetables to clothes and other bric a brac items. Inside the buildings there was mainly food for sell if I remember correctly. Bakers, cheese shops, fish mongers, and meat stalls. Everything was relative cheap and looked fresh and the sellers were all very nice and not very pushy which is a nice change compared to some markets.
