Mallorca, Balearic Islands
Sep 05, 2000 - Jun 23, 2008
There is a lot more to the Spanish island of Mallorca than just sun, sea & sand and this page shows just a taste of what more the island has to offer. I went in year 2000 again in 2008 when I won a newspaper competition to stay in a rural hotel up in the mountains, away from the main tourist areas. I hope my photos show that it IS still possible to escape the crowds!

Lithuania - The country of my ancestors
May 08, 2008 - May 12, 2008
I originally wanted to visit Lithuania because my ancestors came from there to Scotland in the early 1900s. It is such a beautiful place, full of lakes, trees, lots of countryside, stunning architecture and very clean streets. Best of all,it's still relatively untouched by tourism. I am already planning another trip there for next year. I was based in Kaunas for 4 days & made a quick visit for a few hours to Vilnius too.

Orlando, Florida - The Fun Capital of the World
Jul 06, 2007 - Jul 13, 2007
Welcome to my page on Orlando, the fun capital of the world. Believe it or not, you don't need to take kids with you to have a lot of fun in Orlando. I even went on honeymoon there! To see everything Orlando has to offer, it would take a lot longer than two weeks. As well as all the famous theme parks, Orlando has wonderful weather all year round, fantastic shopping and a massive choice of places to eat.

Orkney Islands - my favourite place on earth!
May 05, 2007 - May 12, 2007
I LOVE Orkney and I will continue to visit there forever. This scenic group of islands are situated 6 miles north of the Scottish mainland. The islands are very peaceful with fantastic historic ruins, stunning scenery and wildlife and of course, friendly locals. I have visited Orkney twice and I managed to see many of the interesting sites on the main island known as "Mainland". There are about 70 Orkney Islands in total, with about 16 of them being inhabited.

Kos Island, Greece
Jul 02, 2006 - Jul 09, 2006
I spent a week in Kos, staying at the beach resort of Kefalos. Kos is a small island but it's the second largest in the Dodecanese group. There are lots of ancient sites to visit as well as having plenty of tourist facilities.

Skopelos & Alonissos, unspoilt Greek Islands
Sep 10, 2005 - Sep 17, 2005
Skopelos is situated in the Aegean sea & belongs to the Sporade group of Greek Islands along with Skiathos, Skyros and Alonissos. There is no airport here, so you have to fly to Skiathos and take a 40 minute boat ride to Skopelos. The island is quite small, only 17km by 8km but has many interesting sites to see, including over 300 churches! The island has tourism (probably mainly from Britain) but it is by no means overrun with tourists. As there is no airport, the island remains unspoilt.

Kefalonia Island - my first trip to Greece
Jul 01, 2005 - Jul 13, 2005
Kefalonia was my first visit to Greece. It was a beautiful, unspoilt, interesting island! With fabulous scenery, amazing beaches, delicious food, quaint mountain villages, friendly people. I was based in Skala,on the south coast. It has a long, uncrowded beach (even in July!),excellent restaurants & some shops. The weather in July was too hot for me(about 39 degrees) & this was below average for the time of year!I also took some boat trips to other islands such as Ithaka, Lefkas & Meganissi.

Ithaka, Greece - Gem of the Ionian
Jul 10, 2005
I visited Ithaka on a day-trip from Kefalonia. Ithaka has been inhabited for thousands of years and according to the writings of Homer, was the legendary homeland of Odysseus. It is a very unspoilt island with not much tourism. There are no large hotels, only a few apartments for rent. It is a very mountainous island and therefore it has been too difficult to build an airport. The majority of people arrive by sea except a few celebrities who arrive by helicopter.

Varadero & Havana, Cuba
Apr 11, 2005 - Apr 16, 2005
I visited Cuba in 2005.I went to a large hotel in Varadero,a tourist-based town with very little of the real Cuba. However, if you like the beach, it is fabulous here. I also visited Havana during my stay in Cuba.Away from Varadero, the poverty becomes evident & people beg even though by law they're not allowed to bother tourists.Havana is a city full of old Spanish architecture & buildings, many of which have fallen into disrepair. The Cuban people are some of the friendliest I have ever met.

Andalucia, Spain
Sep 05, 2004 - Sep 12, 2004
I visited the region of Andalucia for a week in 2004. I was based in the pretty coastal town of Nerja which was a good base for exploring the rest of the region. I also visited Seville, Granada, Ronda and the hilltop white village of Frigiliana.
