An event that you cannot miss in Vancouver Jul 22, 2011
This is one of the events in Vancouver that you simply can't miss! I would say the Celebration of Light is by far the biggest event in the summer. For tourists, here are a few things tips that you might find helpful:

- There is no doubt that English Bay is the best viewing spot for this event. You can also see the fireworks from Kitslano Beach, Spanish Banks, and West Vancouver, but their views are nothing comparable to the view at English Bay.

- If you want to get a great viewing spot at English Bay, make sure you arrive no later than 6pm, even though the show won't start until 10pm.

- There are also a few restaurants along English Bay that have great views for the fireworks, but make sure you make reservations way in advance, as the window seats and balcony seats are very popular

- You can also choose to watch the fireworks on a boat or cruise, but they are usually costly. A cheap alternative is to take the ferry from Granville Island when it's close to the show time. If you are lucky, the driver will be nice enough to take you close to the fireworks

Impressive display on the Beach Jul 09, 2011
The festival has competition nights between countries to showcase their culture with music and pyrotechnics. The festival runs through the latter part of July and is attended my hundred of thousands of people. The venue is located on English Bay off of downtown Vancouver. Many people also boat down to view the event. This competition has run many years and is great for families and individuals alike. Mega, super, awesome.

Lightshow at the Beach ! Jul 21, 2010
Well it is Fireworks time again in Vancouver! Hope anyone that is in the area can go down near the water and check the amazing shows that we will have.

With over 1.5 million spectators every year, Vancouver's Celebration of Light is the largest firework competition in the world! This year USA, Spain, Mexico and China will compete during four nights of amazing displays over English Bay near Vancouver's downtown core.

Each country will present a full program which lasts about 30 minutes.

The event takes place on English Bay at 10pm. It will continue over four nights, beginning tonight and ending a week from this Saturday.

Over the 2 week period, it gives many a chance to go and watch. The 3 companies representing their countries perform a 25 minute display set to music. All the competitors on the last day perform during the grand finale.

Many of the spectators will be at best viewing points - WEST END, KITSILANO, VANIER PARK, STANLEY PARK, ENGLISH BAY, JERICHO BEACH and WEST VANCOUVER.. Traffic is closed in the West End and Kitsilano about 6pm each night of the competition and many other areas. Downtown in the West End will be very people-friendly during these nights with much less car traffic.

Police, Fire & Rescue, City Staff, Ambulance and Licensed Amateur Radio Volunteers (Which I am), will help out.

This years dates are:

Wednesday the 21st USA

The HSBC Celebration of Light is a fireworks event hold in English Bay, Vancouver, BC, Canada. This event is in summer season (end of July and first week of August).

I've gone to this event for the past 2 years and it is out of this world. Downtown Vancouver is closed and a lot of people goes to this event. So basically you go to the shore, sit down and wait until the show starts.

The event is free and lasts 30 min aprox and starts around 9:30 - 10 pm. I haven't seen other show like this so far.
