Cedar Lodge El Portal Reviews
May 13, 2007
I stayed at Cedar Lodge for 3 days in May 2007 on a trip to Yosemite National Park and found it to be a great little hotel.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got there, as I'd read some mixed reviews of the place and wasn’t sure what to expect.
The staff on the front desk were very helpful and polite. The room was fairly basic but large, clean, quiet and comfortable, if a little warm (the air-con was too loud to have on at night). It had a private bathroom with separate washing basins and dressing area.
Although the breakfast isn’t complimentary (think it came to about $12 including drink and a tip)I found it to be good value as it’s all you can eat, so we just stocked up for the day. The food was extremely fresh and very good. The fruit bar was especially good. If you’re going to the on-site restaurant for dinner, make sure to be back in time as it only serves food till 9:30pm, and there isn’t anywhere else nearby to eat.
The location was ideal really - about 8 miles from the west entrance gate to Yosemite (highway 140). The drive into the park everyday was a treat - fantastic scenery! The hotel itself was set in very pretty surroundings - with the mountains and the river Merced that runs right next to the hotel (the hotel has a little private beach too).
Overall, a great little hotel (if a tiny bit expensive for what you get) but I was very pleased with it and would stay definitely there again. :)
