Another amazing scenic overlook in America's Southwest! Jul 07, 2006
Located just a short distance east of Cedar City in western Utah, Cedar Breaks National Monument is a natural amphitheater about three miles around and two thousand feet deep. This beautiful scenic area is at the 10,000 foot area so it really is a summer only place. The road is closed in winter. And even in the summer care should be taken because of the possibilities of thunderstorms. Being on the very top crest on the mountain is a magnet for them. So enjoy your trip here, bring your camera, and keep one eye on the clouds and the directions they are headed.

Not far east of Cedar City, Utah you will find Cedar Breaks National Monument. This is a great summertime visit but closed in winter due to the high elevation and probability of deep snow. The drive in from Cedar City takes you up through a very scenic area. As you get to "Point Supreme" you realize that you really are at high altitude. Along the ridge of the highest mountains around you look out over these beautiful canyon walls and the wonderful colors that vary up and down the walls. It is a marvelous view. Take a little care about the possibility of thunderstorms, you are on the top of the ridge and lightning strikes are frequent.

Not nearly as large as the Grand Canyon or as heavily populated with hoodoos as Bryce Canyon this is still worth the easy drive.
