Cayo Guillermo, Ciego d'Avila May 08, 2017
Access to Cayo Guillermo is by using the pedraplen and crossing the whole of Cayo Coco before reaching the small bridge that crosses an inlet that lets you onto the Cayo. You know it's the right bridge when you see the statue of Hemingway halfway across. Along the road if you're not staying in one of the all-inclusive hotels there are no houses or people to see before reaching Playa Pilar, right at the end. There are a couple of lagoons just after crossing the bridge where you'll find the pink flamingos, pelicans, heron and other birds.

After the bridge onto Cayo Guillermo, about a km further on there are lagoons either side of the road and it is here that you have a great chance of catching some pelicans, heron and above all pink flamingos. Superb sight to see these birds in the wild and pretty close at that.
