We were heading to black bear camp ground in phonecia, NY. On the way we got to a little town called woodstock which is pretty commercial now but still a nice little town and still has some old hippies hanging round with stories of the festival. There is alot of live music and local gigs in the town as well. There are alot of small trails around woodstock and phonecia which are great places to see rattlesnakes if your into that sort of thing, and Then we headed to the catskill mountain rail road, a short train ride through the forest which in autum looks amazing and then to the camp site were we camped right next to the river and had bald eagles flying past regually. The owners are very cool and laid back and were telling us how in the summer the bears come down to the river to cool down and you can just sit there and watch them. A great place to visit anytime of year, friendly people, amazing scenery and close encounters with wildlife.
