Arts center and dolls museum Jul 30, 2011
Haifa Castra Mall is not a typical shopping center. Unlike most of the malls, it's not dedicated to grossly overpriced rags, but art. The place hosts several workshops for those who interested, and you can see artists working on their creations, be that paintings, sculptures or glass figurines. Obviously, you can buy all that in the shops on the spot, or other arts related stuff, from beads to pianos.

But the most interesting part is the exterior of the place. The facade of the mall is decorated with paintings inspired by the Old Testament stories (although it wouldn't be very obvious); the artists' vision and imagination have obviously been very fruitful, because the colors and the style of painting is more reminiscent of Bosch than of more traditional styles.

In addition, there's a dolls museum inside, working every day till 17:00 (entrance free). It's quite a large museum, where the dolls are arranged to represent (again) stories from the Old Testament, as well as from the history of the state of Israel.

Given that the place is pretty unusual, very conveniently located and absolutely free, it's worth a visit when you're in Haifa.
